Vosges Haut-Chocolat opens its first purple door in Las Vegas this fall. It will prove to be the most daring and avant-garde venture this chic chocolatier, Katrina Markoff, has attempted yet.

A disciple of Ferran and Alberto Adria of Spain's famed El Bulli restaurant, Markoff stirs exotic influences into her chocolate and her store design. Now, Markoff combines the vibrance of 1950's Sinatra with the luxe modernism of her chocolate. Each element of the store will appeal to a different sense and emotion. The sleek lacquered walls feel cool to the touch representing the purity in Markoff's art. A white patent leather conversation sofa rests in the middle of the space inviting one to relax and become immersed by the energy of Vosges. Large cascading crystal chandeliers hang ornately overhead bringing a kiss of Viva Las Vegas glam to this modern coiffe. A multimedia thread runs through this store inviting you to experience the Black Pearl Truffle while ipods guide you on your journey to Japan and the depths of the South China Sea, to hear the story of this decadent chocolate, from inspiration to creation. Chic chocolat tees, chocolate scented leather motorcycle jackets, whimsical purple hued silk dresses are presented throughout the space. A place where chocolate meets fashion meets sensory awareness.

IMAGINE: The sounds of slot machines ringing in your ears, dealers calling the next hand of cards, the heat surrounds you everywhere…your feet pounding on top of the hard pavement…with each step your mind drifts off to thoughts of some far away land, dreaming just for a moment that you have been transported to an exotic destination…a chocolate oasis in middle of the Las Vegas desert. Suddenly, you catch the faint aroma of the sweet, succulent smell of chocolate. Before you know it you are crossing the espresso hued floor, gliding up to the cocoa bar, and ordering a Parisian chocolat chaud. Ah, one sip and you are sitting in a Parisian café surrounded by the bon-vivants of the 1920's.

In this oasis, you are transported from the mundane to the glamorous to the exotic. The lights dim, the music comes to a halt and a voice begins to take you on a journey, telling you a story you have never heard before, it is a story of lost peoples, far away lands, and rare delicacies. The world falls away beneath your feet, as you listen and taste, and feel the experiences of this space. Will you dare to taste the Rooster truffle, a taleggio cheese and chocolate confection? Or will you explore the most noted Red Fire truffle with its infusions of ancho and chipotle chili peppers, cinnamon, and Mexican cocoa beans? The options go on...
Traveling deeper through the store you come across the phrase There are only 128 Nagaland people living in the United States...eat curry. Hmmm... you take a bite of the Naga truffle, the sweet curry, coconut and milk chocolate transport you to India.
